November 2018: Conference News & Updates |
|
Dear Members
This year seems to have been one with a fantastic and extended summer for everyone in Europe. Autumn has been a long time coming and it appears for many we will go straight to winter… however, at INSOL Europe nothing stands still.
In line with our objective to expand our membership I recently attended a lunchtime presentation meeting in Prague on 21 November – organised by a former Council member, Ernst Giese, involving a presentation by Nico Tollenaar of Resor NV on the EU Directive on preventive restructuring frameworks. This was the first in a series of country specific events we expect to hold going forward to spread our message more widely and ultimately boost membership for INSOL Europe. If you would like to hold a similar event in your country, please let me or your Council member representative know and we will aim to repeat this or find a relevant topic for you.
Preceding the event in Prague, on 20 November we held the Financiers Group seminar, jointly run with INSOL International for the second time in London. The topic was “Directors – who wants to be one?” and this lived up to its promises to be an interesting and topical panel discussion. There is plenty going on and your input on this and other topics is welcomed.

Strategic Taskforce 2025: Summary report published |
Last year, the Council of INSOL Europe decided to initiate the formulation of our organisation's strategy for the years to come. To this effect, the Strategic Task Force 2025 was established, which comprises eight members of INSOL Europe, mirroring its extensive professional and geographic diversity, led by Messrs Dr. Steffen Koch and Wolf Waschkuhn.
As for any strategy, the starting point is of key importance. The Strategic Task Force developed a questionnaire to elicit the many opinions of the current membership, your motivation and aspirations and how INSOL Europe should be seen in and seen to interact with the outside world.
|
Download the Summary here
|
The questionnaire was completed in 2017. The results have been analysed in detail and used in the development of the strategy. A summary of the areas of strategic focus is presented on our website and can be downloaded as a PowerPoint presentation here. For further information contact the Co-Chairs of the Strategic Task Force 2025, Dr. Steffen Koch and Wolf Waschkuhn.

INSIDE Story: Examinership in Cyprus - A missed opportunity? |
As part of the new insolvency framework enacted in Cyprus in May 2015 following the near collapse of the economy, the concept of Examinership was incorporated into the Cyprus Companies Law Cap 113, a procedure largely based on Irish legislation.
Examinership is a debt restructuring and corporate rescue mechanism for companies which are insolvent or likely to become insolvent but have reasonable prospects of success as a going concern.
|
|
Examinership was intended to bridge the gap for debtor companies which have a genuine opportunity to survive, to provide them with much needed “breathing space” and effectively give them a second chance not previously available to them. Andri Antoniou, director at CRI Group, a firm specialising in all aspects of corporate recovery reconstruction and renewal in Cyprus, enquires how effectively this is working in practice. Read the full Inside Story and other articles here.
If you would like the opportunity to have your Inside Story published in a future edition, please email Communicatons Manager, Paul Newson for details.
