2025 Vienna Annual Congress

It is with great pleasure that we warmly invite you to our next and 44th Annual Congress from Thursday 9 to Sunday 12 October 2025 in Vienna (Austria) called The City of Dreams!

Vienna, the capital of Austria, is located in the northeastern part of the country, near the borders with Slovakia, Hungary, and the Czech Republic. Nestled along the Danube River and surrounded by the eastern foothills of the Alps, the city enjoys a strategic position at the crossroads of Central and Eastern Europe. This location has historically made Vienna a centre for trade, diplomacy, and cultural exchange.

The timeless city of music and movement, Vienna offers a poetic stage for our 2025 Annual Congress titled “A Waltz Through Insolvency: Lessons from the Past, Steps into the Future.” Renowned as the birthplace of the waltz, Vienna evokes images of graceful turns, precise timing, and elegant transitions, an apt metaphor for the evolving choreography of insolvency law. Just as dancers must learn from each step before confidently moving forward, so must legal systems reflect on past frameworks to design resilient, future-oriented solutions.

The conference’s theme resonates with Vienna’s dual spirit: a reverence for tradition paired with a readiness to lead change. Here, delegates will not only reflect on insolvency regimes past and present, but - much like dancers in a grand Viennese ballroom - will take deliberate, harmonized steps into a more coherent and dynamic future for European insolvency law.

Topics will include:

  • Happy 10th Anniversary Recast EIR!
  • Between Brick and Debt: Restructuring Strategies for Real Estate Companies in a Downturn
  • Shareholders Rights in in Restructuring
  • Financiers’ Trends to Watch
  • Failure to Prevent
  • Valuation in Restructuring
  • The growing need for parallel proceedings for European recognition of UK and US restructurings
  • Restructuring Game
  • AI and Corporate Insolvency Law
  • Game of Loans: Liability Management Exercises (LMEs)
  • Stigma of Insolvency: From the Perspective of Academia, Neuroscience and Entrerpreneurship
  • Harmonisation of EU Restructuring and Insolvency Landscape

Come to Vienna, make the debates and discussions lively!

Vienna is a very accessible city thanks to its central location in Europe and excellent international connections. Vienna International Airport (18km) offers direct flights from major cities worldwide and efficient transport into the city centre. The city is also a major rail hub, with high-speed trains linking it to neighbouring countries like Germany, Hungary, and the Czech Republic. Long-distance buses, well-maintained highways, and visa-free access for many travelers further enhance its accessibility. Whether arriving by plane, train, bus, or car, Vienna is a convenient and well-connected destination for international travel.

Enjoy a comfortable arrival and departure to and from Vienna Airport with City Airport Train. With rides every 30 minutes, this is the easiest and fastest choice. The train costs €14.90 each way and takes 16 minutes non-stop between the airport and the hotel. Click here to book your train.

Alternatively, there is a dedicated airport taxi rank immediately outside the arrivals hall, estimated cost of €60.00 each way.
