EECC Conference 2018 - Riga, Latvia

We are pleased to announce that our Keynote Speakers for the 2018 conference in Riga are Latvia's Prime Minister, Māris Kučinskis, and Minister of Justice, Dzintars Rasnačs.
As an insolvency practitioner it is always a balance to meet certain interests, but at the same time follow and use the different legal frameworks. That is why the title of our 2018 conference will be 'Balance of Interests: Restructuring, Insolvency and Second Chance'. The congress will be focused mainly on new approaches across Europe towards (cross-border) insolvency, how local and European laws have developed and the Commission's plans for harmonisation of the Member States' insolvency laws. The Conference will consider the possibilities in different European jurisdictions for financing and other crucial tools to save as many companies as possible where there is a viable business.
Attending our conference presents an excellent opportunity to meet industry experts and to learn about the latest trends in insolvency. The conference will be preceded by an optional networking dinner (on Thursday 31 May) in a restaurant in the centre of the old town, during which the guests can have a taste of both Latvia’s culinary and music traditions.
Riga is the largest city in Latvia and also its capital city, and the largest city in the Baltic States with over one third of Latvia's population. Riga is home to the European Union's office of European Regulators for Electronic Communications (BEREC) and is served by Riga International Airport, the largest airport in the Baltic states.
We are very excited about this event and look forward to welcoming you in Riga.

In October 2017, the INSOL Europe Annual Congress was held in Warsaw, Poland, a thriving and fast-developing metropolis of 1.7 million inhabitants which boasts a wealth of history and culture, as well as intense commercial and political activity.
Focus this year was on “Preventive Restructuring: Sunset on Insolvency?”, one of the most burning issues of our time. Indeed, a Proposal for a Directive on preventive restructuring frameworks, second chance and measures to increase the efficiency of restructuring, insolvency and discharge procedures and amending Directive 2012/30/EU was published on 22 November 2016 by the EU Commission. INSOL Europe has taken up the role as torchbearer in this field since 2010.
Against this background we will discuss the practical implications of this preventive restructuring directive, the challenges in the businesses of today and also provide real life examples of innovative and creative approaches in distressed situations. Of course, the first applications of the new regulation which will have come into force and the question of group insolvencies and insolvency registers will be discussed, not forgetting the implications of Brexit for insolvency and restructuring.
Over 400 delegates registered and were joined this year by a Congress Moderator, Sally Bundock. Sally is a Financial Journalist who has been working for the BBC in London (UK) for 20 years. Sally has presented the early morning edition of World Business Report on BBC One, BBC News Channel and BBC World News for the last 10 years and recently launched the BBC's flagship business programme, Business Live, which is shown every week day at 8.30am on BBC News Channel and BBC World News. President Trump, Brexit, the global financial crisis and the eurozone debt crisis are just a snapshot of what's been keeping her on her toes in the recent months and years, so we look forward to her input in Warsaw.

Joint 6th European Insolvency & Restructuring Congress
In cooperation between Deutscher Anwaltverein (German Bar Association) and INSOL Europe
Update: Read a full report of the conference here.
The German Bar Association's (DAV) Section on lnsolvency Law and Restructuring is pleased to announce its 6th European lnsolvency Law and Restructuring Congress (EIRC) in Brussels from 29 to 30 June 2017, jointly organized with INSOL Europe.
This is the sixth conference of its kind and the fourth one hosted by two European organizations for insolvency professionals. The success of the past EIRCs jointly organized with Dutch, French and Spanish partners has encouraged the organizers to share this format each time with another European peer organization.
The EIRC offers again a unique forum for insolvency and restructuring experts to discuss issues concerning national and cross border insolvency and restructuring proceedings, this time in the light of the new draft directive of pre-insolvency restructuring and the Brexit.
We have developed a program including high-profile speakers such as Ms. Vera Jourová (European Commissioner for Justice, Consumer Protection and Gender Equality) and Günther Oettinger (Commissioner for Budget and Human Resources, Brussels). The speakers and the audience will discuss, in panels and workshops, hot topics such as the impact of the new draft regulation on non-performing loans, on banks and the industry and on the whole profession of restructuring and insolvency professionals as well.
With the new European Insolvency Regulation entering into force in July 2017, another focus lies on the topic of secondary proceedings. Here, a dedicated workshop will show the chances and risks of virtual secondary proceedings under the recast EIR for practitioners. The Friday sessions will focus on recent ECJ decisions and other landmark judgements that every professional doing cross-border work needs to know and will round up with an outlook on how restructuring will be influenced by Brexit.
The EIRC will enable delegates to get in direct touch with and to be heard by European lawmakers and to learn about the latest developments from experts involved in the reforms and landmark cases having significant impact on the future of our profession.
